Started off our striking unit with a little bit of science and a mash up of hockey golf. We started off the unit with the use of hockey sticks. They were learning how to strike a ball with the hockey stick but at the same time learn about control and how force effects our accuracy. They had to determine the different variables that help determine the right amount of force to get the ball to stop inside a hula hoop.

Olympics in PE! We finished our bobsled time trials this week. Students had so much fun with this. They had to put in some problem solving, science, and teamwork for this one. They had to figure out how to make their sled fast by designing it as well as how to arrange the members in their group to try for their fastest time.
This is our last week for our Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser for the American Heart Association. We are not quite at our goal so we need a big push here at the end. Remember this is for a great cause, helping children with heart issues get better. Money is due Friday, February 23rd. Anything helps, Thanks!!!!!!
As the Winter Olympics are going on we are checking in on events and giving them a try in P.E. This week we are working on the 2 man bobsled. Students had to use some problem solving along with trial and error to work on making their bobsleds efficient. They had so much fun with this Olympic activity.
We watched some speed skating clips from the Olympics. Then for their warm up students got to take off their shoes and work on their speed skating stride relay style. The students couldn't believe when I asked them to take off their shoes. They got to talk about the Olympics as well as act out one of the events, more events to come too so be on the look out!
Not real ones! Kindergarten learned about attributes of snakes before working on some early jump roping skills leading up to long ropes. They learned what slither means and used it to move the jump ropes while other students worked on jumping over the snakes. We then turned it into Snake Run where they got to run and jump all the snakes!
While working on fundraising for Jump Rope for Heart with American Heart Association , we are also working on earning our Ninja Jump Rope Belts. Students start with a white belt and then try to work their way up to earn a black belt. Belts are earned by a variety of jump rope variations and amount of jumps they are able to perform. Also gives students chances to set goals and then work towards it.
Pre K is getting into jump roping as well this week! We started on the very basics from jumping over a stationary rope on the ground and worked our way up to turning a rope then turning and jumping rope one time. Many of them were so excited when they got their very first jump!!!!
Students are rotating through jump rope stations learning different variations of jumping rope such as criss-cross, bell, skier, a 180, the side swing to name a few. Next week they will be working on earning their Jump Rope Ninja Belts. They are really wanting to earn those black belts!!
